Sublette County And Pinedale Real Estate Boom With Natural Resources

Pinedale, Wyoming's thoroughfare, Pine Street, better known as Highway 191, takes in ideal views of the Wind River and Wyoming Ranges. Paint the Gros Ventre Range to the northwest and you enter a recreational canvas with fishing, hiking, boating, camping, hunting and horseback riding. Conveniently, Jackson Hole is only a 77 mile scenic drive to the north with unadulterated open spaces along the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

Wilderness solitude is your entitlement in Sublette County, Wyoming; user-friendly public lands comprise 80% of the open spaces. The granitic block of the Wind River Range dominates to the northwest, and the carved peaks hold seven of the ten largest glaciers remaining in the contiguous United States. The Green River begins in this wilderness and feeds the local water supply at Fremont Lake before making its way to the Gulf of California.

The county holds just 1% of Wyoming’s total population and not a single stop light plagues the skyline. Pinedale is one of the nation’s smallest county seats with a population of about 1,600. But times are changing rapidly these days. The population is on a quick rise, 25% growth in six years. As the Sublette Community Partnership reports, “In other words, about 1 out of 5 of your neighbors has moved here since 2000.” Partly due to inflation, the county has the second highest cost of living in Wyoming, behind Teton County which is among the nation’s highest.

Natural gas resources have made Pinedale, Wyoming, into a boom town. Multiple drilling companies on the international radar, in the Jonah and Pinedale Anticline fields, operate south of Pinedale. Yet the main street has remained unchanged for years. The region of Sublette County, Wyoming,is driving much of Wyoming’s recent prosperity, as the state’s revenue outpaces the forecasts according to the Economic Analysis Division of the Wyoming State Government. The school district is described by many as excellent and the arts have been infused to such an extent that the district wins awards for art’s curriculum and programming.

The Green River Rendezvous, held the second full weekend in July, includes scholarly keynote speakers and fur-flinging reenactments of those years between 1824-40 when fur trappers met to barter, trade, revel and sell their pelts in the valley below the Green River.
