Jackson Hole Airport Makes Travel Easy for Jackson Hole Real Estate Buyers

Even in the early 1900s Jackson Hole had a coveted status as a destination. Dudes and tourists planned months ahead for the train ride out West where horse and wagon still shuttled around the Jackson Hole valley. As the year-round appeal of Jackson Hole has grown, so too has the ease of arrival and departure. The Jackson Hole Airport, located 10 miles north of the town of Jackson, is small, intimate, and typically hassle free. It’s common to hear the words, “It’s good to be back,” as folks embrace and bustle around the one baggage carousel of the Jackson Hole Airport.
The legacy carriers – Delta, Untied, American and Northwest – have daily direct connections to the Jackson Hole Airport. By summer, daily direct flights – with even more options on the weekend – connect to Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Minneapolis, and Salt Lake. Availability of flights for the Jackson Hole Airport depends on the season, as it's driven by tourism’s demand. That also means that during these “high seasons” there is increased flight availability to make scheduling to and from the Jackson Hole Airport more convenient.
Winter draws a slightly different demographic as ski bags and brimming winter suitcases make the journey to this unparalleled snow-sports destination. Jackson Hole Airport has flights that connect directly to Atlanta, Boise, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Denver, and Salt Lake with major carriers. Alltrans runs a year-round shuttle service from the Jackson Hole Airport to downtown Jackson, the Aspens, and Teton Village. Some people even choose to fly into Salt Lake City or Idaho Falls and take the Alltrans Jackson Hole Express bus service to the town of Jackson.
Residents and owners of Jackson Hole real estate tend to be active and environmentally conscious. They like to ride their bikes and minimize trips to the fuel pump. Still Jacksonites appreciate the mobility of a car as outdoor recreation encompasses a hundred mile radius, and people commute the distances from town to the Jackson Hole Airport (10 miles north) and Teton Village (13 miles northwest). Jackson Hole's downtown is compact and walkable. The west side of Jackson, with grocery stores and post office, is rarely more than a couple minutes by car. Four major highways intersect in and around the Jackson Hole area: Highways 26, 89, 191 and 287. And I-15 is approximately 75 miles to the west at Idaho Falls.
Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, and Thrifty serve the Jackson Hole area. Taxi service is most reliable by appointment or at night around Jackson Hole's town square, which bustles with diners and an active nightlife. In the summer, Jackson Hole locals often pedal about on trendy cruiser bikes and take the streets at a leisurely pace. Paved bike paths connect the major amenities of Jackson Hole and run all the way to Wilson and Teton Village. The network is always adding more connectors and scenic pathways, and people often use it more for recreation than commuting.
Note that Jackson Hole also provides inexpensive public transport. Winter bus routes – provided by START (Southern Teton Area Rapid Transit) – are extensive. Routes run from both Teton Valley in Idaho and Star Valley south of Jackson Hole each morning; they ply the reverse direction in the evening for workers commuting to the Jackson Hole area. The Teton Valley bus also stops in Wilson. There are enough town routes to accommodate all neighborhoods and outlying areas with frequent buses to Teton Village and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
The ski resort charges $5 to $10 for parking. Instead of walking from the parking lot to the lifts many prefer to find the nearest bus stop in town and take advantage of the highly convenient drop off point at the base of the slopes. The summer START schedule is a bit slimmer, but still serves all major hubs and hamlets. Jackson Hole's town shuttle extensively covers the city limits all year long.
