Cold beer? Not at the Derby
The Fair Board, under pressure from the Town, County, and a few Moral Guardians, voted to not sell beer at this years Demolition Derby. Brilliant. This isn’t going to stop the streakers, it’s just going to prevent the Fair from taking the streakers beer money before they take their close off, run through the arena, and subsequently get the crap beat out of them by the a couple Sheriffs deputies. If they want to stop people from drinking too much, they don’t need to stop all beer sales. Just charge a lot more for it. Last year a 16oz beer was $3, which is way too cheap. When it’s 85 degrees outside, bright sunshine and cold draft beer is $3 a glass, guess what? People are going to get wasted. They should charge $8 a beer, they’ll make just as much money and half the amount of beer will be consumed. Even Major League Baseball, the Wiley Coyote of marketing, figured this out years ago.
The other issue I have with this is the small, but vocal, group of people who voiced moral outrage over seeing people run naked from 200 feet away in relatively dimly lit arena. They’re naked people, who cares! I read of people being so offended that their children are seeing naked people when just about every one of the kids there can run home, Google “naked, men, women, horses” and see things that would make even the staunchest ACLU supporter cringe. The fact is the world we live in today is a very different place than it was 20 years ago and if people feel our moral foundation is being eroded by seeing a naked man or women run for 30 seconds in public, then the house is burning and we’re trying to save the toaster.
Slowly we’re seeing the skiing patterns at the Village change as people figure out how to use the new East Ridge chair and replace the use of the Tram. The line seems a little smaller on Sublette when Rendezvous Bowl is skiing well, as it was this past weekend (see photo) and some people are doing laps in Corbett’s by hiking back around to the top of Sublette. And if the new chair can get 32 people up the bowl every 5 minutes or so, roughly 90 more skiers per hour are in the Bowl than when the Tram was in operation.
Real Estate:
2br/2ba top floor Sleeping Indian condominium listed at $769,000
2br/2ba 928 sq. ft. totally remodeled Sleeping Indian condominium list at $795,000. That’s $856 per foot. Hmmmm..
The only house under $1,000,000 in Wilson is a 4br/2ba 1847 sq. ft. listed at $860,000 right on the Village Rd. .32 Acres. This could be a good buy, although I think a lot of people are scared off by expansion that might take place on the Village Rd.
The cheapest place in the Aspens is a 1br/1ba 760 sq. ft. condo listed at $385,000
A 2br/2ba 1650 sq. ft. Cederwoods townhouse closed for $520,000.
Eight friends from College showing up tonight. My liver is going to resemble the heavy bag after George Foreman was done with it. Party on Garth.
