Beautiful morning
Went up Glory yesterday morning. Started hiking at about 7:00 am and saw this sunrise soon after. It was a spectacular sunrise and even better skiing. Over 5 feet of snow has fallen since February 10, and this was the first clear morning we'd had in a while. Being chained to a desk all day is a lot easier when you begin this way.
Speaking of which, I'm not sure if you caught the story about Dan Kaslow in the paper this week. Jackson is full of pychotic uber athletes who are constantly trying to one up each other and in the process doing some pretty amazing things. This poor fellow, Dan Kaslow climbed up glory 12 times in one day last week. At 1600′ per trip, that’s over 19,000 vertical frickin’ feet! Are you kidding me!? Not only did he make 12 trips, he did it in roughly twelve hours. Keep in mind in takes 10 minutes or so to ski down and a few minutes at the top and bottom to take your gear off and put it back on your pack. Of all the insane athletic/endurance accomplishments that I've heard about in my 17 years here, and there have been quite a few rediculously amazing things, I really think this is the most impressive. (the guy who went up and down the Grand in 3 hours may beg to differ)
