Who'll Stop the Rain and Ski the King
“Does anyone know where the love of God goes when the waves turn the
minutes to hours” – Gordon Lightfoot
It was this line from the “Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald” that rang incessantly trough my head as my Dad and I sat in the bar at the Hume Hotel , watching the rain fall and waves crash on Kootaney Lake in Nelson BC. Really, is there anything worse than being on a ski vacation and watching it rain?! And I’m not talking about scattered showers, I’m talking “Noah! stop looking for a second Unicorn and get on the frickin Arc” type rain. Just brutal
Since I got back on Tuesday, it’s been crazy warm here. At least today was sunny and warm rather than cloudy and warm. It got cold enough to freeze last night and with the sun today
I’m guessing it was one of those classic spring days on the mountain. Looks like more of the same for the weekend. Bring it . I'm over winter, which is dangerous to say, because it’s not done yet. But I'm ready for sunglasses, tee shirts, corn snow, and outdoor apres skiing.
Speaking of which, it’s not too often I reccomend skiing the King, but this is the time of year when it is really is good. Warm weather combined with the fact that the sun finally is hitting the due North facing slopes make it a great option for those stuck in town. 5-6 runs at lunchtime is very doable. Get it while you can b/c the Hill Climb and all it’s glory (12 packs, 2 stroke engines, and a couple dozen DUI’s) rolls into town next weekend and after that, the King is done.
My buddy Mike Gibbons sent this to me. A little cruel, but really funny. This poor fellow had his, um, how do I say this, “manhood”, accidentally removed.
