Honestly, in the end it was brilliant. I didn’t think anything could top last weeks episode with Bobby Bacala yelling “all aboard!” for the last time, and Miami Steve got pumped full of lead (I was secretly hoping there would be a scene where he removed that wonderful rug he wears!) but last nights episode was as good as television gets. (It’s a dead heat with the final episode of “Band of Brothers” which had me sobbing uncontrollably like a blubbering four year old). For the last 45 minutes, you felt that any time the end would come for Tony, Pauli, and the rest of the sociopaths. Untimately it was only Phil who got crushed, literally, in a scene that was vintage Soprano’s, topped only by Tony putting Ralphie’s newly severed head in a bowling ball bag a few seasons ago. The final scene, with Tony and family meeting for diner with all sorts of suspicious people milling around was incredible and maybe the most tensioned filled scene I’ve ever witnessed, TV or Movie. And when the screen went black and I finished dropping “F” bombs towards Bresnan as the longest 5 seconds in television history ended and the credits rolled, I knew they had ended it the only way they could, leaving it up to you to decide what happens-not to mention letting us know they’re already writing the script for the “Sopranos Movie” which will create generational wealth for everyone involved.
I’ve got to say though I’m a little crushed we never saw the crazy Russian again.
