Go Tribe!
K-Fed, the responsible parent. Really?! How does this happen. I seriously think it’s time to revisit parenting licenses.
Ok, so I flew to NY to watch my Yankees pull one of the biggest crap outs in recent history. Probably not, but it seems like it now. Anyway, I came away with three thoughts:
- 1. A Rod is never going to hit in the postseason. Never. He walks to the plate with this look of fake confidence. He looks like Timmy Lupus up there. It’s the same look GW Bush has at every press conference. He’s the best pure hitter since George Brett and no one is going to remember that.
2. As a whole, Yankees fans are not the best looking bunch.
- 3. I first went to Yankee Stadium when I was 10 years old with my Dad (Game 4, 1976 Series against the Reds. (Billy Martin got tossed and the Yankees got swept) and since then I’ve spent many, many, wonderful days and nights there. I love the history, I love the monuments in left, I even love the $9.00 beers, but Yankee Stadium is falling apart. It’s a dump. The new place across the street can’t open soon enough.
Speaking of baseball (sorry I can’t help myself) I was watching Game 3 of the Red Sox/Indians game tonight and wouldn’t it be a breath of fresh air if these announcers stopped laying on the BS and just said what was really going on. Case and point, Mike Timlin, the Red Sox 41 year old washed up relivier comes into the game and his analysis goes something like this:“ Here’s Mike Timlin, the crafty veteran who relies and on his hard sinker and experience to get people out. He’s been in these situations before and the pressure nothing new to him.”
What he should of said “Here’s Mike Timlin coming into the game folks, and look at the smiles on Cleveland bench. He’s got a good sinker these days because his pitches can't quite make it to home plate. Take a good long look at this guy because you never know which pitch is going to be his last …ever.”
Several years ago the big issue in Jackson was traffic, then came affordable housing. I really think immigration and illegal workers is going to be next. The muttering around town is getting louder, the arguments more passionate (read: nasty) and there really seems to be dark clouds on the horizon. The interesting thing about this debate is that it will cross the normal political demographics, creating some pretty interesting alliances. That being said, I've never seen Jackson so divided on just about every issue. There seems to be no middle ground.
I supported the funding of it, and still do, but I gotta admit a three story parking garage in town looks a little weird.

True but sad about the immigration issue. Since I have ties to Basalt, Colorado, I find myself comparing the Roaring Fork Valley to Jackson Hole. Much of what they've experienced, we seem to experience about five years later, and the immigration issue is getting pretty bad there (remember the 7-11 incident?).
I think I know which house on Fish Creek. If that one goes for anything close to asking price, I'm selling mine for three times as much!
Speaking of asking price, it’s good to see that things are at least closing a little below these days. Correction?
No comment on baseball.
as usual, great post Jack. I am still in absolute amazement at the Rockies. Putting aside the Big Red Machine, who were stacked with future Hall-of-Famers at the time, has any team EVER rode into and through the playoffs in quite the same way?!? Who can you say was, is or will be anything approaching a legit “star” on this team besides Todd “Captain Jesus” Helton and Matt “not Roy” Holladay “not Halladay”?
For some real estate comparison, my mom’s house in Floridian-loving Boone, NC, which sits on two wooded lots, has stunning and pristine mountain views, 4000 sq feet, 3 bd, 3 ba, 8 person indoor hot tub room, game room with 60″ plasma, up and down decks, and two car garage (w/ 6 wheeler included) just sold for almost $600,000 (asking price was met). She has three adjacent lots still for sale at $65,000 a piece. Jackson is nuts!
