Thunder Road

Why am I getting this sick feeling that the Democrats are going to blow this presidential election again.  Between the quagmire in Iraq, the sputtering economy, and the endless scandals by the Republican members of Congress, The Democrats waltzing into the White House should be like Tony walking into the Bada Bing.  Everyone just nods their head and it’s done. But instead I’m seeing is a bunch of bickering candidates, none of which will actually stand up for something..ANYTHING!  And it’s looking more and more likely that this incredibly dysfunctional party that will probably send up one of the most divisive political figures in recent memory in Hillary Clinton, as the Democratic nominee to a country that sadly, in my opinion, is not quite ready for a women president, much less one who angers so many people and will divide  Democratic party.  As a result, the little voice in me is saying Uncle Mitt is going to backdoor his way into the Oval Office.

Granted I'm a total Springsteen dork, But I’m pretty much resigned to the fact that “Thunder Road” is the greatest rock and roll song ever written.  It works on so many levels.

This whole election recall stuff in Teton Valley is nuts.  Finally, a couple elected officials have the testicular fortitude to stand up and call the development there what it really is, crazy, and that a moratorium is needed to allow everyone to catch their breath for just a moment, to think about what they’re doing and maybe, just maybe,  plan just a little for the future. And how is responsible, clear thinking rewarded??  A possible election recall which could get them removed from office.  great.  No good deed goes unpunished.

From my good friend Rick Dellarusso, a New Englander and regular visitor to Jackson.  He feels my constant Red Sox bashing is need of a rebuttal.  (For the record, if I see one more picture of “crazy” Jon Paplebon, I going to throw up)

“ Jack is a very good friend, but his hatred of my beloved Red Sox is becoming unbearable. Jack, along with other Yankee fans, need to wake up and realize that there is a new “Evil Empire” in town and that is the Boston Red Sox. Just watch ESPN, Fox Sports or even listen to Mike and Mike in the morning here in New York and they will tell you that the Red Sox are the new standard for excellence in baseball, taking over that title held for so long by the Yankees. The Sox have many more WS Championships to come with this team and ownership in place. Jack, I know it is not easy to accept, but the problem for you and other Yankee fans is that you were used to winning for so long, you became spoiled and losing was not an option. Red Sox Nation knows what it is like, been there, done that. Frankly, this WS victory was borderline YAWN material, certainly nothing like 2004 and less exciting having not gone through the Bronx to get it done

Jack, don’t dismiss those locals wearing Red Sox hats, tell them “job well done” and  “much deserved” for all your pain and suffering over the years. And keep your head up, things are changing for the better in the Bronx…the Yankees just solved most of their problems, they are not pursuing AH–e, I mean ARod. Certainly their team chemistry is better for it and its gives someone else a chance to play in October who can certainly bat over a buck ten. And Girardi is the right man for the job, he is a smart and well organized manager who will help this new young talent the Yankees have and also help to light a fire under the aging crew. He is a proven winner. Don’t fret, better times are ahead!
On to Jackson Real Estate…I am somewhat amazed these real estate prices in Jackson Hole, the market continues to flourish with no real sign of weakness. Very similar to the market here in the Northeast, when you think bargains are to be had, think again. I look forward to our annual trip to Jackson and welcome the sign of snow fall so early. And Jack, when that next true bargain hits the market, don’t forget me, I am a buyer!

Nice post, Jack - couple thoughts:

Recall - ridiculous, of course. As I understand it, more have to vote them out than voted them in the last time around. On the surface, this would seem a tough hurdle for those behind the recall, but you never know; hopefully, those that voted them in, and are concerned about the future of Teton Valley, let alone Teton County (ID or WY), will show up again, and be joined by all the many more who've made the move since the last time around.

Bruce - downloaded “Magic” the other day - outstanding. Can't stop listening to that first track especially, “Radio Nowhere”, and the solid guitar intro… Rest of it is great too - “Girls in their Summer Clothes”….

Election 2008 - I hear where you're coming from on Hillary. Interesting convo to have w/ friends, acquaintances, etc… Who will be first to be elected Prez in the US - Woman, Black, or Jewish. Hope that doesn't come across as harsh - I'm ashamed to say I still think the country is way too conservative on a national level to vote anyone from the former demographics in. Hopefully somethin’ about the Electoral process allows for somebody like this to squeak though. Otherwise, I fear Mitt (the GOP “evangelicals” won't stomach Rudy…) I'm lost, now that Clark has gotten behind Hillary….

Teton Meadows - What is “Historic JH” anyway? Solo former ranchers getting in their over-sized pickups (over-sized, in that they no longer need it for ranching/farming) to drive from South Park to town just to pick up their mail and have coffee everyday? Trailer parks? 49′r and Teton Gables? Biggest convo we need to have about Teton Meadows isn't actually the affordable housing - I doubt anyone is going to get behind “Homestead” as proposed - it’s the (lack of) transportation options and services in South Park area (including Evan’s Trailer Park, Game Creek, Hog Island, Rafter J, Polo Ranches, South Park Ranches, etc…) Even if it wasn't originally identified as a “node”, take a look at an aerial map - sure seems to be one now. And the Seherr-Toss property sure seems to look like “infill” to this layman….

  2. Sam Horn Says:

Jack- heard through the rumor mill that 6 acres on Green Lane (storage units) went under contract recently.

And I agree with your friend Rick; what’s with the Red Sox bashing?? And now the Patriots? Come on, can't you appreciate championship organizations and there commitment to their players and fans? We have put up with the Yankees stigma for too long and it’s refreshing to see a new era begin to develop with a dedicated front office like the BoSox have.

Are you one of those confused fans from Connecticut who cannot decide who to route for? The Pats did almost move to Hartford- that would have been a joke. Go Whalers!
