Is Clemens Lying?

The best January skiing since 1997-1998? Yeah probably, and maybe even better than that storied year. 127″ since 12/29. Nothing wrong with that!

All the snow did create some big avalanche issues, not the least of which can be seen here. Scroll down and look at the photos.

I had dinner last week at the Couloir restaurant, located at the top of the Gondola, and it was a very pleasant surprise. It’s not particularly cheap ($85 p/p, 4 course meal) but the atmosphere is excellent, the food is great and I thought our waiter played it perfectly. And I felt the Gondola ride up and down was kinda cool. Granted I'm a total map dork, so I like aerial views of things, I really liked looking down on the Valley at night. It gives you a very good idea of how the area has grown.
My brother Ben sent me this piece of the Roger Clemens interview on “60 Minutes” which wound up on the cutting room floor. Guilty? You decide. I'll be interested to see what he has to say in front of congress in a few weeks. It’s one thing to lie to Mike Wallace, but if you lie to Congress, the guys in the little black windbreakers “Federal Marshall” on the back will come knocking on your door.
Looks like this company is trying to buy up all the land from Jedediah’s to the corner on the left side of Broadway. The number I've heard tossed around is $25,000,000. They've already picked up a couple pieces.
Also heard that a group is looking into the entire Blair Condominiums on South Park Loop Rd. for close to $60,000,000. Just a rumor.

It also looks like the Village Center Inn (home of the Village Cafe, Wildernest Sports, and most importantly my ski locker) will be saved from the wrecking ball for one more year according to a pretty reliable source.

This is a story on the sad state of the situation on Teton Pass. Fighting? Really??

Hotel Terra is scheduled to open in Teton Village on 1/29 with the Gavin Fine’s (Rendezvous Bistro, “Q”) new restaurant “Osteria” opening on February 1. It will be Italian cuisine with a full bar for Apres Ski and staying open until 11:00 PM. It should be good.

For years the Jackson real estate market has been pretty immune to the fluctuation of the markets of the rest of the country. Even post 9/11, the prices here didn't really drop, just flattened for a while. I'm not so sure we will escape this lasted credit crisis/stock market tumble. It just seems too wide reaching to leave us alone this time. I think it’s pretty evident that Teton Village is a little soft right now (4 properties under contract since 12/20) and there seems to be inventory piling up in town, and even a little in Wilson, which has been the strongest segment of a strong Jackson market.

Sad to hear about the pass. Seems like just yesterday that we were heading up there to one row of cars, a peaceful hike up, and some great community at the top. Of course this was in the days before ipods, cell phones and red bull. Oh how things change! Next thing you know that Forest Service will be selling parking spaces from the base of the pass and issuing tickets to unruly patrons. The fact that there needs to be an ambassador up there speaks to the looming micro-management of this sacred resource.

Maybe Clemons and OJ can start a club. Coming to you from a golf course in your community!
